Jammu Kashmir Polls 2024: The second phase of voting for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024 will be held on Wednesday (September 25, 2024). In this phase, votes will be cast on a total of 26 seats of the Union Territory (UT). A total of 239 candidates are in the fray for 26 seats. Among the 239 candidates, there are five leaders including Omar Abdullah of the National Conference (NC) and Ravindra Raina of the BJP, on whom everyone’s eyes are fixed.

Come, let’s find out which big leader is contesting from which seat and who is he competing against:

Omar Abdullah: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is contesting from Budgam and Ganderbal seats. Omar Abdullah, who has a strong hold on Belgaum seat since 1977, is facing seven candidates this time. Aga Saeed Muntazir Mehdi and Aga Saeed Ahmed Moosavi are contesting against Omar Abdullah in Budgam. If we talk about Ganderbal seat, this seat is said to be the stronghold of the Abdullah family. On this seat, Omar Abdullah is contesting against more than a dozen candidates including PDP leader Bashir Ahmed Mir and National Panthers Party leader Abdul Rashid.

Ravindra Raina: Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravindra Raina is contesting from Rajouri seat. Ravindra Raina had registered a historic victory from this seat in the 2014 elections. He is contesting from the same seat in this election as well. It is believed that this time his path is going to be difficult. His party’s former leader Surinder Chaudhary is the candidate from this seat on a National Conference ticket.

Tariq Hameed Karra: Jammu and Kashmir Congress state president Tariq Hameed Karra is contesting from Srinagar’s Central Shalateng seat. On this seat, he is pitted against PDP leader Abdul Qayoom Bhat and Awami National Conference’s Riyaz Ahmed Mir and his own party’s Zafar Habib Dar. Let us tell you, Tariq Hameed was once with Mehbooba Mufti’s party PDP. But, later he left the party and joined Congress.

Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari: Altaf Bukhari is contesting the election from Srinagar’s Channapura seat on his party’s ticket. He is pitted against PDP’s Mohammad Iqbal Trumbo, National Conference’s Mushtaq Guru and BJP’s Hilal Ahmed Wani.

Sarjan Ahmed Wagay alias Sarjan Barkati: Sarjan Ahmad Wage alias Sarjan Barkati is currently in jail. He is contesting elections from Ganderbal and Beerwah seats. Sarjan Barkati was a big face among those who took out protest rallies in Shopian and Kulgam after the death of terrorist Burhan Wani in 2016. He has been accused of separatist ideology and giving provocative speeches.
